Getting around Istanbul

By Taxi: Taxi's are the most efficient way of getting round Istanbul (there are over 60,000 in the city). Make sure the Taxi-Meter is set to zero before you head off.

By Ferry : Istanbul 's 'sea-buses' ( Deniz Otobusu) are both the cheapest and most picturesque way of seeing the city. Most of the docks are located at the mouth of the Golden Horn, near the Galata Bridge (Sirkeci, Karakoy and Eminonu). For trips to the Asian side (Uskudar) ferries can be caught from Eminonu or Kabatas (Just to the south of Dolmabache Palace ). Bosphorus cruises depart from either near the Galata Bridge or under the Bosphorus Bridge (Ortakoy).

By Minibus: Collective minibuses (Dolmus ) run set routes all over the city. While they are more expensive than the state buses they are much faster and more comfortable. Taxim square is a good place to catch one.
