Cancun Travel Advice - Tips on What to Avoid

Playa Garrafón: Part of the Parc Nacional Isla Mujeres, Playa Garrafón's days as a 'coral garden' are long gone. Scores of day-trippers helping themselves to 'souvenirs' and carelessly weighed anchors have decimated the coral, leaving a drab and depressing backdrop for the tropical fish that tenaciously hang on.

Airport taxis: Unless you have more pesos than sense. Admittedly sharing one of the Transporte Terreste airport vans isn't the most romantic start to your holiday, but they will take you where you want to go and you'll save at least £25.00.

Playa San Miguelito and playa Delfines: Although all beaches in Mexico are public, some are more public than others. The proximity of two car-parks next to Playa San Miguelito and Playa Delfines makes these two Cancun's liveliest beaches. For 'lively' read crowded.

Free diving lessons: We're not seriously going to tell you to turn down any free lessons that your resort offers you, but want to hammer home that an hour in the pool won't prepare you for open water dives. The scuba market is a lucrative one where concession salesmen will tell you whatever you want to hear to sign you up. Reputable dive outfits include; AquaWorld, Boulevard Kukulcán, Km 15.2.
