From the savannah to the fairway

One of Kenya 's best-kept secrets is its numerous golf courses, with locations and green quality ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous. The country has 37 courses(ten with 18 holes) six of which can be found within a 20-mile radius of Nairobi. The home of the Kenya Golf Union is the Muthaiga Club; this in turn is host to The Kenya Open - the country's most prestigious golfing event. It's particularly noted for its manicured greens and challenging layout.

For sheer beauty head for Limuru, the 45-minute drive from Nairobi will set you among verdant tea plantations and a cooler climate. At the other end of the spectrum are the comedy courses.Nairobi's Railway Club has an active line - hence the odd train - running through the course, and the Ndumberi Golf Club doubles as a football field!
