Underwater safaris

After bumping around Kenya 's dusty game reserves, the draw of the country's idyllic Indian Ocean coastline becomes that much stronger. But why confine your safari to land? Watamu, basking on the Indian Ocean coast 130km north of Mombasa, is home to a marine reserve and has some of Kenya's top dive sites. Clubs bend over backwards to meet your needs, whether you want a single dive or a two-week PADI Dive master course.

The tropical waters are protected and sea-life abounds. The inner reefs are home to many colourful fish(including angel fish, butterfly fish, snappers, groupers) but you'll find the most dramatic species on the outer reefs - turtles, barracuda, manta rays and the colossal(and luckily, vegetarian) whale shark, the world's largest fish. Moray Reef, Dolphin Point, The Coral Garden, Mida Wreck. the names alone are enough to make you want to take the plunge.
