Excellent pictures on this site provide a clear window on at least the tidier, emptier side of island life on Kos. There is also the added novelty of being able to say that you are "close to Asia Minor and 201 nautical miles from Piraerus," although this might just provoke extra confusion if you are already lost. Take a virtual tour which, as well as pictures, has practical information.
The 'Message in a Bottle' link is not a noticeboard for travellers, but rather a source for more useful information, such as things to see while mooching around the town of Kos. Examine the romantic-sounding Venetian Castle of the Knights of St John and the tree of Hippocrates, under which the great man himself is supposed to have taught medicine and put rival theories in the shade. If you need to give the harbour master or tourist police a ring, be glad that you pulled the number off the 'Practical Information' page first.
And remember, "On Kos, one lives as one pleases. One can join the colourful, carefree and noisy throng of visitors, one can retire to secluded spots in the mountains or one can enjoy one's swim on any of a vast number of beaches." One is obviously going to be busy on one's holiday, isn't one?
