One of the great things about visiting Kos is that there's such a variety of places to stay in, and you're never too far from a beach. Unless you're a dedicated clubber, try to avoid staying too near the centre of Kos town, as it gets noisy at night, and accommodation generally represents less value for money. Instead head for one of the villages scattered across the island or book into one of the all-inclusive beach resorts.
The Ramira Beach Hotel on Psalidi Beach is a five-star all-inclusive place that represents superb value for money. For just over £20 per person per night, you can enjoy three meals a day, plenty of snacks and unlimited drinks. If you love sports, you can choose from a range of activities, whether it's beach volleyball or mini-golf you love. Or just relax in the sun, sipping a drink from the pool bar.
If you're after a bit of pampering during your stay, Kos has a number of spa hotels. The Neptune Spa & Resort has a sanctuary where you can enjoy a whole host of beautifying and relaxing therapies, including: hot stone massage, aromatherapy, shiatsu and(appropriately for a Greek resort) thalassotherapy. The hotel is located on the beach; great news for water sports enthusiasts. Luxury no Kos doesn't come cheap and rooms cost in the region of £200 per night, but you can guarantee that you'll be well and truly spoilt. Keep an eye open for seasonal discounts and occasional promotions.
If you would prefer a taste of traditional village life try the Apollonia Tonis Hotel, which is within walking distance of Marmari. and even nearer to the beach. There's a freshwater swimming pool with snack bar, and a restaurant where you can sit outside to enjoy the sun. The feel to this hotel is spacious and set in acres of its own well-tended grounds. The rooms aren't the height of luxury, but they are perfectly adequate and cost just £10 per night.
When you're visiting Kos, think about what you want out of your stay before you book. An all-inclusive resort with private beach is great if you're planning on plenty of water sports, as these are usually included in the price. However, if you just want to sunbathe, enjoy the local food and have a look around the island, you can go for a cheaper hotel without missing out on anything. Once you're clear about what you want, it's time to start shopping for bargains.
