Hotels and villa in Corfu

The verdant island of Corfu has something for everyone, including accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets. Villas are especially popular and you'll find a wide choice, ranging from 'bijou'(for which you can read 'small') self-catering places to luxury villas with their own pool and maid service.

If you're in a small group Dinos villa on Kaminaki Beach is well-worth investigating. The terrace leads directly onto the beach, and the recently refurbished kitchen makes self-catering easy. There's only one double bedroom, but it sleeps up to four people if you make use of the sofabeds in the sitting room. In high season, prices start at about £900 per week to rent the whole place. However, you may be able to get a better deal on a comparative property by shopping around. Villas in Corfu are of ten let by different third parties, charging different rates, so even if you have your heart set on a particular property, it's still worth ringing around the agents.

If you want to really push the boat out; it's difficult to beat Villa Panorama Karousades, situated on the bay of Sidari with sea views and its own swimming pool. It can accommodate up to fifteen people if necessary. There's also a Jacuzzi and a well-equipped kitchen, as well as a children's play area. The cost for eight people to stay there is between £180 and £215 per day, depending on the season.

If you want to avoid the villa option and go for a hotel instead, there are plenty to choose from. The Corfu Palace is good for five-star service and facilities, with its marble floors and sub-tropical gardens. Your room will have a marble bath as standard, and you can soak up the rarefied atmosphere on your terrace or balcony. In high season, expect to pay up to £200 per room per night for a double room.

The Corfu Palace is most definitely not to be confused with the Pink Palace, Corfu 's cheap and cheerful backpacker haven. The atmosphere is lively, and the décor, as you might expect, is rather on the pink side. In high season, you can get a shared double room for just over £20 per person per night. If you're prepared to forego air-conditioning and sea views, or to share with more than one other person, prices plummet to about £12. Great value for money and a seasoned favourite for budget travellers.
