Corfu isn't the most accessible Greek island, but for most travelers the sun-kissed beaches are well worth any effort spent getting there. If you're planning to visit Corfu, you need to decide between a two-stage or three-stage journey; don't expect a direct flight.
As usual when comparing prices, you'll find that the cheapest flights have more stops. Olympic Airlines operate some of the cheapest flights, with prices starting at about £230.00 for an inclusive return. However, this usually means travelling via two other Greek cities(almost always including Athens). Flight times for these three-stage flights can vary between six hours and eleven hours; so check the schedule before you book and get hold of some good airport reading. Olympic Airlines also offer one-stop journeys with prices starting at £300.00. A one-stop flight usually clocks in at a reasonable six hours.
It's also worth investigating some of the more established European airlines before you make your final booking. Carriers such as Lufthansa and Air Berlin often team-up with British airlines(including British Airways) to bring you cheaper flights to Corfu. For example, although British Airways doesn't fly to Corfu at present, you can catch a BA flight to Berlin before flying the rest of the way with Air Berlin. Prices are usually competitive with Olympic Airlines, as are journey times.
Don't forget that Corfu is a well-established package tour destination, which means that there's a large number of operators competing for your business. This can only mean one thing; great deals. Well-known High Street companies such as Thomas Cook have regular promotions on Corfu holidays, and the online package sites are getting in on the act too.
Corfu Airport( Kerkyra International Airport) is fairly small and basic, but the good news is that it's a ten minute drive from Corfu Town. In fact, if you don't' have much luggage; you can even make the journey on foot! In the airport you'll find a choice of car hire options, including Budget Cars, Europcar and Hertz.
There are no airport buses per se, but you can catch the regular city buses just outside the airport buildings, where you'll also find plenty of taxis(approx £5.00 to the city centre, but make sure that you firmly establish a price before setting off).
