Flights to Sharm el Sheikh

Sharm el Sheikh tends to be more popular with package tourists than with independent travellers, and this is obvious from both the flight availability and the airport transport. However, although most people visit Sharm el Sheikh as part of a package deal, that doesn't mean you can't buck the trend and do things differently.

For a direct flight to Sharm el Sheikh, your best scheduled options are British Airways and Egypt Air. Egypt Air prices generally start at £400 for an inclusive return, while BA tends to be cheaper, at under £300. As well as price, your choice will depend on which British airport you want to fly from. British Airways flies from Gatwick, while Egypt Air flies from Heathrow. Charter companies come and go, but do represent great value for money; so check the listings in the back of the Sunday newspaper and on Teletext.

Sharm el Sheikh's Ophira Airport is small but functional. However, because of its size; the airport can easily become crowded and a little chaotic if too many flights land at once. As most visitors arrive on packages(with pre-arranged onward transfers) you'll find transport from the airport isn't immediately obvious or accessible. Buses from the airport are infrequent and hard to track down, and the taxi rank isn't clearly visible until you start to walk out of the airport(be prepared to haggle hard!). One option is to consider hiring a car; and you have all the international big players to choose form, including: SixT, Avis and Hertz.
