Let's face it; we didn't come to Egypt to see a load of dusty old rocks did we? We came to play golf!(But be aware that the shade of Queen Hatshepsut's temple might suddenly seem attractive compared to the blistering heat of the golf course.) You don't have to be a pro golfer to appreciate Royal Valley, just the sight of green grass amongst so much aridity will have you crying with relief.
This is an eighteen-hole championship course(par72) that measures over 6,000m. Statistics like that won't mean much to beginners who think 'a slight dogleg left which sets up for a drawn tee shot' sounds more like a yoga position than a golfing term. Only 10 minutes from Luxor Airport and 25 minutes from the city centre, discovering Royal Valley is like stumbling across Teletubby land on the moon. How refreshing. Unfortunately the official website spends more time down than up; and this site is genuinely the best of the rest.
