Cairo Transport options

Hire Car: Egyptians prefer to hit the horn rather than the brakes, traffic is congested, streets un-named and parking a nightmare. If you're still willing to brave it, its worth noting that at night streets are poorly lit.

Buses: The Cairo Transport Authority run buses proving to be the cheapest form of transportation in the capital. The main hubs are: Maydan Tahrir, Maydan Ataba, the Citadel and Ramses Station. Orange minibuses offer something a little more comfortable, reliable and only slightly more expensive.

Metro: The Egyptian Government have sunk a lot of money into the underground rapid transport system to spruce it up. The result is a clean and reliable service. There is a flat fare for travel in the city centre(this also applies to buses). The first car in every train is reserved for women, and it's wise to use it - especially during rush-hour.
