Hotels in Cairo

Cairo is a busy, bustling city, with accommodation to suit all tastes and all budgets. There's five-star luxury at the Conrad International Hotel, where the heated swimming pool has a view of the Nile. The Marriott Hotel is similarly sumptuous, with large rooms, exquisite architecture and a unique garden setting to enjoy. Most of the international luxury hotel chains, such as Hyatt and Four Seasons, have hotels in Cairo, so you have plenty of choice. Five-star hotel prices start at around £60.00 per room per night, and you may be able to enjoy even lower prices if you shop around for special offers.

If you want a quiet stay, consider the President Hotel, which is located in a residential area off the beaten track. The hotel gets its name because it is surrounded by embassies, but it doesn't represent presidential-style luxury, although it is good value for money. Expect to pay about £25.00 per room per night for a double room.

For central accommodation, look at the Cosmopolitan Hotel, which boasts a mix of Victorian-style architecture and modern conveniences such as a Jacuzzi. Prices start at about £30.00 per room per night for a double.

If you don't want to splash too much cash on your stay, the Venus Hotel is a low-cost, good-value option. For less than £5.00 per person per night, you can book a twin room with en-suite bathroom, and this price includes breakfast.

For the traveller on a serious budget, the best option, as ever, is to check out the hostels. The Canadian Hostel downtown scores points for transport - you get a free bus to the pyramid at Giza as well as airport transfer included in the cost of your stay. Breakfast is included too. As usual with hostels, you get a cheaper price if you're prepared to share with several people, but it's possible to book a double room for just you and a partner. A double room costs from £4.00 per person per night.
